China’s Li Na 1st seeded woman to lose at US Open
Eighth-seeded Li Na of China was knocked out in the first round of the U.S. Open on Tuesday, losing 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 to 59th-ranked Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine. Li is the first seeded woman to lose in the tournament. She had reached at least the fourth round in each of her three most recent trips to Flushing Meadows and was a semifinalist at the Australian Open in January.
